The Donegal team before the FAI Youth Interleague semi-final in Galway
Donegal suffered late heartbreak as they lost out to an 89th minute Galway winner in the FAI Youth Interleague semi-final at Eamonn Deacy Park.
Galway 3-2 Donegal
Eamonn McConigley’s side went 1-0 up on 19 minutes when Robbie Murphy finished with his left foot after good approach play from Luke Parke. However, the home side were back on terms by the 32nd minute when Conor Kealy’s pass was finished by Colm Melar.
Five minutes before the break Melar put Galway 2-1 up from the penalty spot but Donegal managed to level again at 2-2 on 42 minutes when Faolan Gibson finished off a cross from Sam Harvey.
Chances followed at both ends with Ethan McCafferty going close twice and Murphy also going close with a header. Mark Margey, at the other end, was kepy busy too. With a minute left, though, Galway substitute Charlie Quinn shot high into the net with what proved to be the winner. Sub: Charlie Quinn
