Keadue Rovers thought they'd pulled matters back to 3-2 but this goal mouth scramble, where the ball appears to cross the line, wasn't signaled as a goal.
Cappry Rovers boss Jamie Doherty says he was delighted with how his side responded after they initially fell behind to Keadue Rovers in Sunday’s 3-1 win.
Peter McGee’s 20th minute strike had given the Rosses outfit the lead their early efforts deserved. However, the hosts lifted the ante straight away and by the midpoint, led through Paddy McNulty and Michael Carroll.
And with veteran attacker McNulty nabbing a second in the second-half, Cappry went on to pin three very big points to the board.
“It was massive, the response,” agreed Doherty “In this league there are no easy games. Anyone, on any given day, can turn the other over. That’s what makes every weekend so competitive. To be honest, it didn’t look too good early on.
“Our home form to date has been terrible. That’s our first win. After the loss in Rathmullan last time out it was just good to get three points once again”.
Jamie Murray was excellent for the winners, setting up all three goals with his deliveries from the left a constant threat throughout.
“I’ve had Jamie here since he was a wee lad. He went out wide and the game seemed to change when we moved him from that more central position. He was always dangerous whenever he was given that time and space.
“And fair play to big Paddy (McNulty). I don’t know how he does it but he’s still banging in the goals. That’s another couple for him there today”.
The win propels Cappry from midtable up to fourth in the standings. Next time out it’s another home fixture as they host St Catherine’s.
“We are free next weekend before St Catherine’s come here on Sunday week. They beat us over in Killybegs 2-1. They’ve a really nice blend of experience there and a few older heads guiding it all on. They are a little like ourselves in that sense. Like I said, it’s dog eat dog so we’ll have to be really at it”.
