Keri Loughrey eager for 'big' step after Sligo Rovers move

Keri Loughrey,

Keri Loughrey is relishing the challenge of stepping into the senior Women's National League with Sligo Rovers.

The 17-year-old Buncrana woman has been snapped up by Bit O'Red boss Steve Feeney.

Loughrey is a Republic of Ireland international at both Under 16 and 17 level.

Still eligible to play in the Under-19 WNL, Loughrey – who played for Donegal Women's League last season – goes into Sligo's senior ranks.

“I can’t wait to be playing in the Women’s Premier Division this year with Sligo Rovers,” Loughrey said.

“It is a big step up for me and I want to improve myself and help the team get as many results as we can this season.

“This is a good opportunity for me and one I couldn’t turn down, having the chance to play Senior Women’s football with a great club like Sligo Rovers.”

Loughrey was part of Sligo side that was defeated 3-1 against Athlone Town on Saturday evening in their first pre-season outing of the year.

Feeney says he is 'delighted' to add Loughrey to his outfit.

He said: “She is a really exciting young player and one we have been keen to get into the club for a while now and, it is great that she has joined us ahead of the new season.

“With all young players, they need some time to progress and develop and we will help her do that and are all excited to have her with us.”
