GFA President Mícheál Naughton and Amber Barrett in Texas yesterday
Mícheál Naughton, the President of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, got a memento from the Republic of Ireland's friendly against the United States in Austin, Texas, last night.
Ireland fell to a 2-0 friendly defeat to the world No-1 ranked USA with members of the Donegal LGFA in attendance, including Niamh, Geraldine and Nicole McLaughlin. Former Donegal footballer Amber Barrett was part of the Irish squad and it was her goal against Scotland last October that sealed a first ever berth in the World Cup finals for the Irish team.
Afterwards, the Milford native gave her jersey to Donegal county councillor Naughton, who formerly managed Donegal. He is part of the party of the 2021 and 2022 TG4 All Stars who are in Texas for the 2023 TG4/LGFA All Star tour.
"I was delighted to attend the Ireland ladies game against the USA yesterday, unfortunately the result didn’t go our way, but I was honoured that after the game that Amber Barrett gave me her jersey, such a lovely gesture from a brilliant role model for any sport, thank you Amber I really appreciated it," Mícheál Naughton posted.
Ciara Grant from Letterkenny, Greencastle's Roma McLaughlin and Barrett were unused substitutes for Ireland with Niamh McDaid from Carndonagh a sports scientist working for STATSports with the Irish squad and Donegal Town's Kate Keaney in the same role with the United States.
