Yarik Vovk, Gweedore Celtic’s goalkeeper in the Donegal Schoolboys’ Youth League certainly repaid a kind gift from his club on Wednesday evening against Ballybofey United.

Gweedore Celtic take up the story: “ In a heartwarming gesture before Wednesday evening's youth match against Ballybofey United, Reserve Team Manager Eoin Ferry and club member Ciarán Ferry presented Yarik Vovk, the youth team's goalkeeper, with a special goalkeeper kit adorned in Ukrainian colours to mark his season with the club's reserves.

As the match unfolded, Na Ceiltigh fought hard to secure a valuable point, and it seemed they were on track when Micheál Mac Aoidh scored a last-minute equaliser.

“However, just as the final whistle approached, Ballybofey United were awarded a penalty. Undeterred by the pressure, Yarik displayed remarkable composure and stepped up to the challenge. With nerves of steel, he executed a breathtaking save to secure the point for the boys.

“A huge thank you to Shauna and the entire team at Brian McCormick Sports for their swift turn around on the jersey. Top class customer service as ever They went above and beyond to ensure that the special GK kit in Ukrainian colors was ready for our young netminder.”

Yarik joined Gweedore Celtic from Keadue Rovers late last year and is staying with a foster family in Gaoth Dobhair.
