Finn Harps defender Daithi McCallion is stretchered off against Longford Town.

Finn Harps fear that Daithi McCallion’s season could be over.

The 18-year-old defender, who is on a season long loan from Derry City, suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder on Friday night.

McCallion was carted off on a stretcher after going down late in the first half of the 1-0 defeat to Longford Town and taken to Altnagelvin Hospital for assessment.

“It’s a massive blow if Daithi’s is as serious as it looked,” Harps assistant manager Darren Murphy said.

McCallion has been superb for Harps all season, many of his performances belying his young years. The Derry man was recently called back to the Northern Ireland Under-19 squad, but is now set for a spell on the sidelines.

Murphy said: “It’s a massive blow for the kid. He didn’t look good would be the best way of putting it.”

The return of Ellis Farrar to action in recent weeks will serve as a boost with Matthew Makinson set to serve a suspension following his sending off on Friday.

Murphy said: “We just have to regroup. That’s why we have a squad.”

Captain Ryan Rainey had to sit out Friday’s game after coming down with an illness, but Harps are hopeful that the midfielder will return for the away trip to Wexford.
