There was a strong Donegal feel as East Perth FC won the Women’s North League.

Letterkenny woman Leona Russell captained the team - the first Irish women’s team in Perth - with Inishowen quartet Rosemary Doherty, Caitlin Devlin, Shauna Ruddy and Georgina Gordon in the squad.

Russell is a former Bonagee United captain while Doherty, Devlin and Gordon have all played for Clonmany Shamrocks. Doherty - who is a former Irish senior boxing champion - also turned out for Carndonagh in her career and Gordon has represented Rasheny. Ruddy featured in the North West Women’s Super League for Culdaff before moving Down Under.

East Perth secured the League title with a 4-0 win over Hamersley.

East Perth are now playing at Cabrini Park and 2023 saw them field a women’s side for the first time.

They also reached the cup semi-finals, losing narrowly 1-0 to Sorrento FC.
