Humble Seamus Coleman dismisses Everton 'Legend' tag

Everton skipper Seamus Coleman.

Seamus Coleman says he still doesn't class himself as an Everton legend despite his 14 years of service on Merseyside.

The former St Catherine’s FC man is the Premier League's current longest-serving player, turning out for over 400 games after joining from Sligo Rovers for just £60,000.

"Club legend? Not for me," Coleman told the Nothing Will Be The Same podcast. "Because in my opinion, you have to have won something at a football club to be a club legend.

“I'll be someone that has played three or four hundred games forever but club legend, not in my eyes.

"I can go to bed at night knowing that I give everything for Everton Football Club and that is all I can ask of myself."

On some of the managers who he has served under, Coleman said Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was quick to get in touch after he scored a spectacular winner against Leeds last season.

"Ancelotti rang me a couple of days after and said, 'oh my God, what a goal' and we spoke for a couple of minutes. He is someone I have stayed in touch with.

"Marco Silva also texted me after, saying it was an important three points and well done on the goal. It is nice because when they are here I give my best and do all I can and want them to stay in the job as long as possible.

"They respect how much I have tried to do for them and it's great to stay in touch with them."
