Jack Keaney has been awarded the UCD Supporters Player of the Year award.

The already relegated Students lost 5-1 to Dundalk on Friday night at the UCD Bowl and Donegal Town native Keaney, at the club since 2019, is now expected to move on. Jack Keaney picks up his POTY award from the UCD Supporters Club

Keaney graduated with a Science degree back in September and admitted that the time was probably now right for a return to full-time football.

The centre-half said: “I'm just going to see out the season and see what comes for next year, if there's anything out there.

"I went to Sligo at Under-17 up until my Leaving Cert and then I was professional for two-and-a-half years.

“I had a taste of the full-time set-up at Sligo. It was brilliant there, played a lot of games, made a lot of friends there, you never know what could happen.

“I've loved every minute at UCD. I can't speak a bad word about it but it's probably the time to move on.

"I did a bit of teaching, maths and biology, last year in Blackrock College and I'm doing a bit of grinds to keep me ticking over the next two months and we'll see what happens.

"I think teaching is going on the back foot for a while. I'm going to try to go full-time, I don't know where that will be. I will see when the season is over".

Another Donegal man, Letterkenny's Michael Gallagher, netted UCD's only goal in that defeat to Bray on a night the curtain came down on the Premier Division season.
