Amber Barrett scored two goals in the Belgian Super League
Two goals from Amber Barrett helped Standard Fémina de Liège to a 3-0 victory over Club Brugge to go second in the Belgian Women's Super League.
In a dominating performance, it was the Donegal native who stole the spotlight with her two crucial goals taking Standard joint top of the league with Leuven on 31 points.
Standard Fémina de Liège has been on an impressive run throughout the season, remaining unbeaten in their 13 league games since their last defeat on October 20.
The setback, a narrow 1-0 loss to Gent, served as a turning point, motivating the team to rectify their course and emerge as formidable contenders in the league.
The Milford native demonstrated her goal-scoring prowess by opening the scoring just 14 minutes into the match, setting the tone for her team's dominant performance.
Abdulai Toloba added the team’s second goal early in the second half with Barrett later netting her second goal on 79 minutes, sealing a comprehensive victory for her side.
With this impressive win, Standard Fémina de Liège now finds themselves in joint first place with Leuven, with both teams boasting 31 points. However, Leuven holds the top spot by virtue of a superior goal difference of 10.
Standard will next face third placed RSC Anderlecht next week, who they overcame 2-1 back in September.
With the league hotly contested at the top of the table, it will be expected to come to a boiling point next month when Leuven travels to Standard on February 17.
