Letterkenny Rovers celebrate having clinched the New Finn Travel Division 3 title

Letterkenny Rovers cruised to victory over Lagan Harps to seal the New Finn Travel Division 3 title.

After falling behind at Leckview, the home side turned on the style to run in a comprehensive 7-1 victory, with Adam Murphy and two goals from Conor O'Donnell making it 3-1 at half-time. In the second half, further goals from Jordan Nugent, captain James Barlow Gallagher, Oran Winston and Dualtach McGroarty completed the win.

The match kicked off with both teams showing early intent. In the third minute, Nugent  had an opportunity but missed wide to the right. However, Lagan Harps quickly countered, with Jack McConnell finding the back of the net in the seventh minute against the run of play.

Letterkenny Rovers responded swiftly, with Murphy leveling the score with a superb shot from 30 yards out in the ninth minute. The momentum shifted in Rovers' favour, as O'Donnell scored twice in quick succession in the 20th minute and shortly after, extending Rovers' lead to 3-1.

Throughout the first half, Rovers dominated possession and created numerous scoring opportunities, putting Lagan's goalkeeper, Kai Brown, under constant pressure. As the rain intensified in the second half, Letterkenny continued to assert their dominance. Nugent added to Rovers' tally in the 52nd minute, followed by Gallagher's header on the 65th, extending the lead to 5-1.

Despite Lagan's resilience, Rovers continued to pile on the pressure, with Winston adding to the scoreline in the 82nd minute, making it 6-1 in favor of Rovers. Lagan had a chance to pull one back with a good effort from Eoin O'Connor on the 85th minute only to be denied. However, it was Rovers' day as substitute  McGroarty sealed the victory with a stunning goal from 35 yards out, securing a convincing 7-1 win.

Letterkenny, managed by Eddie McGrath and Gerry McGroarty, therefore cannot be caught, with Erne Wanderers, who they defeated 3-0 in Ballyshannon earlier this month, in second place in the table.
