Dale Gorman has swapped Barnet for Woking for the season ahead
Letterkenny native Dale Gorman has signed for Woking.
The 27-year-old central midfielder joins following the expiry of his contract at Barnet, who finished in second place in the National League only to lose out in the play-offs at the semi-final stage on a 4-0 scoreline against Solihull Moors.
Gorman previously played with his hometown club Letterkenny Rovers, Stevenage, Leyton Orient, Newport County, Glentoran and Yeovil Town.
Woking finished the 2023/24 season in 17th place in the National League and are managed by Dubliner Michael Doyle, who was capped once by the Republic of Ireland, when he appeared as a substitute for Andy Reid in a 1–0 win over Holland in Amsterdam in 2004.
“Woking Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Dale Gorman,” the club posted.
“A Northern Ireland under-21 international, Gorman moved to England from the Republic of Ireland when he joined Stevenage in 2013, making his debut two seasons later. He made 71 appearances for the club across three seasons before joining then-National League side Leyton Orient in June 2018.
“Gorman made 45 appearances across two seasons, including 22 in the 2018/19 National League season as Orient were promoted as champions, before a move to Northern Irish side Glentoran in 2020. After one season, he returned to the National League, joining Yeovil Town. In 2022, Gorman joined Barnet and impressed across the last two seasons, making 87 appearances as the Bees finished fifth and then second. He was also given the captaincy in 2022 and retained it until he left the club.”
“Dale is a massive signing for us,” said Doyle. “He was one of our three main targets for the close season, and we’re well-chuffed to have got this over the line. He’s been promoted from this league and played in numerous playoff campaigns. He’s a great age for what we’re looking to do. He also adds character having served as club captain at Barnet during his time there.”
