Finn Harps boss Darren Murphy
Darren Murphy admits that Finn Harps were disappointed with how Friday night’s loss to Cobh Ramblers came about but is content that his side remains firmly in the play-off mix.
The Ballybofey outfit stay in fourth spot despite the weekend’s 2-0 defeat in Cork. Liam Kervick put the hosts in front on 29 minutes while David Bosnjack made sure of things in added time.
In between, the visitors had pushed hard for an equaliser they just never came. And, right at the death, they were hit on the break to round off a frustrating evening.
“There was very little in the game,” said Murphy after. “It was our own mistake that allowed Cobh to get their opener.
“We should have scored ourselves in the second-half, I don’t know how we didn’t. And it was that pushing, looking for an equaliser, that left us open at the back for the second”.
Harps made the round trip to Cork without the benefit of an overnight stay but Murphy didn’t rely on tiredness as any kind of excuse.
“It was a long journey down. We left Ballybofry at nine this morning. It’ll be five or six o’clock in the morning before we’re back home. We probably did start a little slow but we came right back into it.”
Cork City continue to lead the way in the First Division with 43 points from 20 outings. Back in second, UCD are nine of their coattails. Athlone Town, with a game in hand in third spot, are on 31 with Harps just behind on 29.
Ahead of Thursday evening’s home clash with UCD, Murphy says he’s content enough with that.
“The positive is we’re still in the mix. 20 games in, 16 to go, we’re there or there abouts. Thursday, it’s a hugely difficult game and it’s a quick turnaround, So we need to be ready”.
