Finn Harps celebrate their final win over Dundalk

Finn Harps Down Syndrome Futsal team travelled to the Gormanston Sports Complex in Co Meath on Sunday and were crowned League of Ireland champions on the day. 

Harps comprehensively saw off Dundalk in the decider to take the cup back up to Donegal. As well as Harps, the following clubs also took part in the Down Syndrome Futsal Festival: Shelbourne, Cork City, Dundalk, Wexford FC, Bohemians and Sligo Rovers.

The Harps squad that travelled was: David Crawford, Daniel O’Reilly, Meg Carr, Keigan Taylor, Hughie Sweeney, Kealan Doherty, Leanne Kelly and Shaun McCosker.

Grouped with Shelbourne and Sligo Rovers, Harps played both sides in their section twice. They defeated Shels on both occasions, 2-0 and 6-0 as well acccounting for Rovers 5-1 and 1-0. 

Moving onto the knockout stages, they saw off both Wexford 6-0 and, in the final, defeated Dundalk 6-1. 

Tony McNamee, Danny Ferry and Steve McNutt made up the management and mentors team. 

This fantastic new initiative, which is a collaboration between the FAI Football For All programme and the League of Ireland via the clubs’ Football and Social Responsibility (FSR) Officers, helped provide male and female players aged 16 and over with Down Syndrome with an opportunity to line out for their local clubs.
