Milford man Gary Merritt
Dergview has announced the signing of Milford man Gary Merritt.
Merritt previously played for Strabane Athletic, having signed for them back in January.
Castlederg side manager Ivan Sproule commented, “Gary is a very clever footballer. He links the play well in the final third and comes off the back of a very impressive goal-scoring season at Strabane last year.”
Sproule continued, “When we approached Gary about coming to Dergview, he was excited about the project and our aims for the season ahead. He spoke about his desire to progress as a footballer and push his career on to the highest level he could. Gary’s attitude to the game is first-class, and his hunger to succeed is a big part of what we are trying to build within the club. We look forward to working with Gary in the upcoming season.”
Merritt, discussing his decision to join Dergview, said, “After meeting with Ivan and Blaine, it was an easy decision for me. Seeing how passionate they spoke about the club and football in general, where they want to get the club back to, and what is expected of me made it an easy move.
“There is a seriously talented squad put in place with a good mixture of youth and experience. With the management team that we have, it will have us in a really good position to push for promotion and get the club back to where it should be.”
After being relegated last season, Dergview will compete in the Premier Intermediate League next term.
