Seamus Coleman leaves the pitch with an injury last month against England
It is unlikely that Séamus Coleman will be named in Heimir Hallgrimsson’s Republic of Ireland squad this Thursday for the team’s Nations League games in November, with the Donegal native still sidelined through injury.
Coleman was forced out of the action early in the second half of the defeat at home to England last month with a calf injury that kept him out of the follow-up game at home to Greece, as he still remains on the injury list at Everton.
And although the Everton skipper may be unable to make an impact on the field at the moment, that still didn’t stop Coleman from grabbing his team-mates’ attention with a rousing speech in the dressing room at half-time against Crystal Palace last Saturday when his side trailed the Londoners at the break.
One point from their opening five matches left the Toffees languishing early and the boos rang out around Goodison Park.
But awaiting the players in the dressing room was Coleman, who was invited to say his piece by Sean Dyche after the manager had delivered his talk.
Fellow veteran Ashley Young was also absent through injury but offered an insight about the Ireland captain’s contribution after Dwight McNeil’s brace sealed a 2-1 comeback victory.
“Massive three points,” he wrote on Instagram after. “It has been coming, we’ve been unlucky but our togetherness is too strong to not change that luck at some point. Maybe it was Skip’s speech at half-time, I think the whole stadium heard him.”
Coleman became Everton’s record Premier League appearance holder last January when he surpassed the 355 mark.
Dyche admitted 10 days ago that the injury was worse than initially feared, now throwing further doubt into his availability for the upcoming internationals away to Finland and Greece.
