Mulroy Academy were presented with their FAI Club Mark Two Star award on Thursday night.

The award was presented in advance of the Republic of Ireland v Finland game in the Nations League at Aviva Stadium.

Mulroy are the first club from Donegal to get a Two Star award having previously been given the Entry Level and One Star awards.

Now, Mulroy players will wear two stars on their sleeve as one of the first batch of eight clubs nationwide to receive the award.

Fergus McAteer attended the FAI presentation ceremony in Dublin in his role as Club Mark Officer & Coaching Coordinator in the club.

The award was presented to Mulroy Academy by Ger McDermott, the FAI Grassroots Director.

Fanad man and UEFA Strategic Development Manager Liam McGroarty also attended the presentation ceremony to join Mulroy Academy in their night of celebration.

McGroarty works for UEFA throughout all the member associations in Europe and it was fitting that a man from the peninsula was present.

“The FAI Club Mark is an award for grassroots clubs based on best practice in their management and administration,” McAteer told Donegal Live.

“The programme aims to support and encourage clubs to improve standards on and off the field with the result of having stronger clubs and a stronger game.

“In receiving the award, Mulroy Academy has demonstrated a consistent and high standard in a number of areas, including club governance, child welfare, safeguarding, coach development, community engagement, club development and strategic planning.”

McAteer hailed the club’s members, players, managers, coaches, volunteers and parents.

The Mulroy Academy management committee compromises of Peter Cullen (Chairperson & Children’s Officer), Danny McLaughlin (Asst. Chairperson), Aisling McAteer (Secretary), Stephen McGrenaghan & Aidan McAteer (Joint Treasurers), Marie Sweeney (PRO), Leonard Roarty (committee member) and Fergus McAteer (Coaching Coordinator).
