Amber Barrett before the UEFA Women's EURO 2025 play-off match against Georgia last month
Donegal trio Tyler Toland, Amber Barrett, and Anna Patten have all been named in Eileen Gleeson’s Republic of Ireland squad who are set to face Wales in the European Championship play-offs starting in Cardiff City Stadium on November 29.
While more history awaits the women’s team, Gleeson’s side has been faced with some setbacks with the manager unable to select injured Louise Quinn, Ellen Molloy, Lucy Quinn and Jess Ziu to face Wales.
Barrett, who plays her club football with Standard Liege in Belgium, is one of five strikers selected – while Blackburn Rovers Toland will be one of the midfield options for Ireland.
Only 15,000 tickets have been sold for the second leg at the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday, December 3. Prices start at €10 for kids, €25 for adults and €50 for two adults and two under 16s.
It is the third women’s football international at the Aviva, with Ireland having beat Northern Ireland 3-0 in September 2023, which drew a crowd of 35,944, and lost 3-0 to Sweden in qualifying.
Ireland is on the cusp of qualifying for their second major tournament - the Euros in Switzerland next July - having broken new ground at the 2023 World Cup when Vera Pauw’s side did not progress from a pool that contained hosts Australia, Canada and Nigeria.
