Derry City FC Women recently celebrated the exceptional contributions of two Donegal natives, Ellie Long and Shania McMonagle, during their annual awards ceremony.

Long, a 19-year-old forward, was honored with the Best Newcomer Award following a remarkable debut season with Derry City FC Women.

Known for her quiet demeanor off the pitch and commanding presence on it, Long made significant contributions throughout the season. She notably scored a memorable goal in the Irish Cup semi-final, showcasing her skill and composure under pressure.

Before joining Derry City, Long played for Sion Swifts Ladies, where she gained valuable experience in the NIFL Women's Premiership. Her transition to Derry City has been seamless, with Long making 15 appearances and scoring one goal in the league during the 2024 season.

Meanwhile, McMonagle was recognised with the Goal of the Season Award for her outstanding strike following her mid-season transfer from Sligo Rovers to Derry City FC Women.

The former Raphoe Town player made an immediate impact, scoring a remarkable goal on her home debut against Lisburn that left fans and teammates in awe.

McMonagle's seamless integration into the team and her ability to deliver in crucial moments have been instrumental in Derry City's attacking prowess. Her performances have not only earned her individual accolades but have also contributed significantly to the team's success in the latter half of the season.

The achievements of Ellie Long and Shania McMonagle highlight the talent emerging from Donegal and underscore the vital role these players have played in Derry City FC Women's recent successes.
