Donegal Town remain top of the Temple Domestic Appliances Division 1 with a comprehensive win over Gweedore United at the Hospital Field.
For most of the opening quarter it was all-out attack on the Gweedore goal with chances galore. Joe Leape went close; Stephen Graham hit a screamer just past a post while the lively Ronan McHugh and Killian Faulkner also had good efforts.
Gweedore United had one chance in this period with Niall Friel forcing a corner and Gary McFadden was just over with his header when the corner was played.
The breakthrough came on 26 minutes and it was left back Joe Campbell who showed the way for the ‘Town, finding the corner of the net from distance.
The chances continued to fall for Donegal Town with Killian Faulkner forcing a corner and when the corner was swung in by Eoin Slevin, Killian Faulkner headed towards goal and it fell for Ronan McHugh to fire home.
Declan Duignan was then denied at the expense of another corner but was then on the end of a great move started by an intercept in midfield by Ian Campbell. Cian Gavigan and Killian Faulkner were all involved before Duignan finished the third.
Dan O’Donnell had a late effort for the visitors before the sides changed sides.

The game was over as a contest within minutes of the restart when Killian Faulkner won a corner and when the ball came in Ian Campbell’s header was only partially cleared and Stephen Graham bundled home.
Marty Byrne began using his substitutes but the goals continued to flow with Aidan McHugh sliding in Declan Duignan for his second on 54 minutes and Aidan McHugh added a sixth on 75 minutes.
Gweedore United did get much more space in the final 15 minutes and they availed of a couple of opportunities through a very good header from Brian McFadden and a strong finish from Stephen McFadden on 82 minutes.
The goal of the game came in the final minutes when Ian Campbell let fly from outside the box and found the top corner.
Donegal Town are due to meet one of their main rivals, Castlefin Celtic, next week and they are a point clear of Glenea United at the top after this weekend’s games, although they have a game in hand.
