Two former Buncrana Hearts players, Kieran McDaid and Ryan Doherty, found themselves on opposite sides of the pitch in a pre-season friendly at the Sevens Stadium in Dubai.

The match, played under the intense heat of the Middle Eastern morning, saw McDaid, known as “Croc,” claim the bragging rights as his team, the Wolfhounds FC from Abu Dhabi, defeated Doherty’s Dubai-based side, the Clique FC, with a convincing 3-0 scoreline.

The encounter marked a reunion of sorts for the two players, both of whom began their football journeys with Buncrana Hearts before pursuing opportunities further afield. McDaid has become a key figure for the Wolfhounds, showcasing his skills in the competitive football scene in Abu Dhabi, while Doherty has been a standout player for the Clique FC in Dubai.

Buncrana Hearts FC celebrated their former players’ achievements on social media, saying: "In the heat of Dubai earlier this morning, former Hearts players Kieran McDaid and Ryan Doherty came up against each other. Croc claimed the bragging rights as his team, the Wolfhounds FC (Abu Dhabi), beat Ryan's team, the Clique FC (Dubai), 3-0."
