Cappry Rovers narrowly missed out on the Ulster U12 Girls SFAI Cup title in a tense and hard-fought final against Cootehill Harps, losing 1-0 in what was a thrilling contest at the weekend.

The match kicked off at a rapid pace, with both teams eager to assert their dominance. Cappry Rovers had the first significant chance when Alison Imbuli’s well-struck effort hit the crossbar, sending a wave of frustration through the team.

They continued to press, and Fia McNulty nearly broke the deadlock in the first half with a clever attempt that beat the Cootehill goalkeeper, only for defenders to scramble back and clear the danger.

The first half ended goalless, with both teams having their moments, but neither was able to find the back of the net.

After the break, Cootehill Harps came out with renewed vigour, creating more attacking opportunities. Cappry goalkeeper Clodagh Scanlon was called into action several times, making a string of impressive saves to keep her team in the game. Despite her heroics, Cappry struggled to gain control of the match as Cootehill pressed higher up the pitch.

With just five minutes remaining, Cootehill’s left winger made a decisive run and fired a powerful shot past Scanlon, giving her side the lead. Cappry responded with determination, mounting an all-out attack in search of an equaliser, but despite their best efforts, they were unable to break down the Cootehill defence.

The final whistle blew with Cootehill Harps emerging as 1-0 victors, claiming the Ulster U12 Girls SFAI Cup title. Both teams were praised for their competitive spirit, and the quality of girls' football in the province was on full display.

While disappointed with the result, Cappry Rovers can be proud of their performances throughout the tournament. They will now turn their attention to the next challenge, as they progress to the All-Ireland Last 32, where they will travel to Navan next Sunday.
