Donegal Town FC U-17’s journey in the FAI National cup came to an end on Sunday at the quarter-final stage at the hands of Tramore from Waterford on a 5-3 scoreline.

In a very exciting first half, Donegal Town went in at the break 3-2 to the good after being behind twice. Nikodem Dominik scored twice after closing down the Tramore keeper and picking up another loose ball inside the box.

Ryan Mahon showed his usual desire to close down defenders and he got his just rewards ensuring the Town went in ahead in at the break.

Donegal Town will feel that they could have had a greater lead after Oran Boyle rattled the crossbar and Nikodem Dominik narrowly missed. Tramore however also looked dangerous in attack.

Early in the second half Daire Slevin played a trademark through ball for Jamie McMonagle to get on the end of and it took an outstanding save from the Tramore keeper to put it onto the post. A scramble in the box followed but Tramore eventually managed to clear. Within a few minutes the game was level after a wicked deflection wrong-footed Lewis McCalmont in the Town goals.

Tramore grew stronger from this point and took the lead after another goal-mouth scramble. As the Town pushed for that equaliser Tramore got the fifth goal which sealed this very entertaining affair.

Darby Sheridan was outstanding for Tramore while the Donegal Town lads gave their all up to the final whistle. While disappointed not to go another step in the competition, these lads can be proud of their season winning the Donegal All County Premier Division and reaching this stage of the competition.
