Joe Campbell and Declan Duignan in the colours of Donegal Town FC and St Naul's respectively
It was a busy day for two sportsmen in South Donegal on Sunday as they hopped between two venues for two games in different codes.
Joe Campbell and Declan Duignan have been central to Donegal Town’s push for Donegal League Division 1 League honours all season, but they also have a loyalty to St Naul’s in the All County League Division 2.
Over the last couple of weeks a clash was avoided and they were able to play for both but on Sunday last there was a dilemma as Donegal Town were hosting Ballybofey United in the vital final league game of the season at the Hospital Field while St Naul’s were at home to Carndonagh in Gerard Gallagher Memorial Park, Mountcharles.
As it turned out, both were able to play a part in both games. Campbell, who has been used in various roles by both Donegal Town and St Naul’s was at left back for Town on Sunday with Duignan at centre-forward.
Following the 1pm kick-off, Donegal Town eventually got over the line to win 3-1 and secure promotion to the Premier Division, with Duignan scoring the first goal on 10 minutes, so it was then a hurried journey down to Mountcharles, arriving about 15 minutes into the game at 3:15pm.
Campbell, who has filled in for Gavin Mulreany in goals, was happy to see the county man with the No 1 jersey and he was brought into the action straight away and made an impact with the only goal of the game just before half-time to keep St Naul’s in touch at 1-5 to 0-8 after playing into the wind.

Duignan was then introduced at half-time and he too contributed, hitting the first point of the second half. There was a happy ending, thanks to two monster two-pointers from Mulreany, with St Naul’s running out two-point winners, 1-12 to 0-13 to pick up their first league points of the season.
Ironically, the St Naul’s captain, Ian Campbell, was also a member of both clubs but didn’t have a decision to make on Sunday as he was out with a hamstring injury.
