Both the Donegal and Inishowen Leagues were against the original concept of summer football
The FAI has now rowed back on its proposal for a single national football calendar which is good news for Donegal.
While there had been a vote in favour of matching the schedule to the League of Ireland season, delegates have now been told that leagues will be able to apply for an exemption.

The Donegal Junior League and the Inishowen League were among those who opposed the idea.
This means leagues in the north-west can continue to run from September to April.
Both the Donegal League and Inishowen League had previously expressed grave concerns over the unified FAI calendar and the move to summer football - with talk at the time of even a breakaway, unaffiliated league.
Back in December of last year Donegal Junior League Secretary Nigel Ferry and The Inishowen League’s Diarmuid O’Brien said both bodies would be seriously weighing up that option if the FAI persisted with their original intentions.
