The Finn Harps 2013 team were crowned champions at the Galway Cup over the weekend.

The side, managed by Aaron McCready and Sean Friel, had to come from behind in the final to beat Willow Park 2-1.

After going 1-0 down and trailing at the break, two perfectly executed lobs from James Kilfeather and Adam Monaghan put them ahead, and they held on for a fully deserved win.

The side impressed the whole way through the competition, winning all five games over the five days.

They started with real intentions and in their first game, hit seven against the Longford Talent Programme, a brace each from Cian Langan and Adam Breen, as well as goals from Callum McClenaghan, Isaac Griffin, and Adam Monaghan to take their first win on Tuesday.

Charlie Rodgers and McClenaghan then scored in a 2-0 win over Mervue United, as the side kept another clean sheet, and a third followed on Thursday against Roscommon, McClenaghan and Breen again bagging braces, with Isaac Griffin, Mason McBrearty, and Cathal Doherty also on the scoresheet.

The semi-final then followed on Friday, and in a tight game against Cavan/Monaghan, it was McClenaghan scoring the only goal of the contest, his fifth of the tournament.

Finn Harps would concede for the first time in the final to Willow Park, but they bounced back well in the second half to take the trophy.

It wasn't to be for the 2012 squad, who came up short in the Shield final, losing 2-1 to the Dundalk Schoolboys.
