Donegal Town FC have appointed Ryan Hegarty as their new manager for the 2025/26 season.

The Diamond Park men were promoted to the Premier Division last year after finishing second in Division One, taking the battle for top spot to the final day as they just lost out to Glenea United.

However, managers Marty Byrne and Joe Rodden have stepped away ahead of the new season, with Ryan Hegarty coming in to replace the pair.

JP Byrne will continue as manager of the Saturday team, who finished fourth in Division 1 last season.

The club released a statement, expressing their thanks for the outgoing managers.

“As the senior season is getting closer, we would like to show our gratitude to outgoing Sunday managers Marty Byrne and Joe Rodden.

“Marty has spent 20 years around the senior setup and Joe nine! They have shown great dedication throughout the years and a great legacy they leave with the club in the Premier Division.

“They thankfully are still involved in the underage setup and getting the players of the future ready for senior football. Ryan Hegarty steps up as Sunday team manager, with JP Byrne having another stint as Saturday manager.

“We also would like to send our gratitude to Jonathan Smyth, who has worked with the underage teams on a Saturday for the past 15 years. His dedication and knowledge have been invaluable at the club, and we would like to thank him for his amazing contribution!”
