Everton captain and, inset, Stephen McLaughlin
Seamus Coleman and Stephen McLaughlin were in direct competition on Wednesday evening as Everton eliminated Mansfield from the Carabao Cup in a game that ended 2-0 in favour of the Toffees.
Carlos Alcaraz scored a sublime goal to guide the Premier League side into the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Killybegs native Coleman - recently left out of the Republic of Ireland squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers - got 90 minutes under his belt on Merseyside while Isle of Doagh’s McLaughlin was introduced as a second-half substitute.
The hosts missed numerous chances before Argentine Alcaraz hit a delightful first-time strike from Harrison Armstrong's pass in the 50th minute. Beto converted from close range late on to make the game safe.
Coleman's appearance in the game means the former St Catherine's man has now played for Everton for 17 consecutive seasons, equaling legendary goalkeeper Neville Southall's record and, in the process, setting a new one for an outfield player.
