Donegal Town 4
St. Catherine’s 1

Donegal Town took the lead when Ultan O’Grady set up Ronan McHugh whose finish hit the corner of the net in style.

St. Catherine’s equalised from a corner kick. Into the second half and again Donegal got ahead.

Again, it was McHugh, this time through a Ben Sweeney assist. Donegal were in charge from there in and added goals through O’Grady and Mark Jordan.

Voodoo Venue Cup – Area Finals

Kildrum Tigers Reserves 1
Lagan Harps Reserves 0

A 33rd-minute save from the Kildrum goalkeeper was the highlight of the opening period of this match played at Station Road. The early exchanges were mostly bogged down in midfield and clear-cut chances non-existent.

The home side did enough to win the match, however, with the breakthrough coming early in the second half.

On 49 minutes Luke Toland reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box and he slotted home for what turned out to be the match winner.

Kildrum did create a few openings after that, but nothing really noteworthy, while Lagan pushed for an equaliser but lacked any cutting edge in their attacking play. Not a classic but a well-contested affair.

Oldtown Celtic 4
Glencar Celtic 2

Oldtown clinched the Voodoo Venue Area Shield after a tough battle with Glencar Celtic. The local derby started at a fast pace as both teams looked for an opener.

Joe McCarron did just that when he met Tommy McLaughlin’s cross on the edge of the Glencar penalty area. It was soon level again as Eddie McLaughlin was fastest to react when Ultan McMonagle’s free-kick was saved by Michael Gibson.

McLaughlin put Oldtown into the lead again when he latched onto John McFadden’s through ball. Pajo Rafferty got Glencar back on level terms in the opening minutes of the second half.

Oldtown especially, and Glencar too, both had a real burst of energy and the game became very watchable as both teams battled well. The loss of two players was too much to overcome for Glencar and with their opponents depleted Oldtown scored two further goals through Kevin McGrath.

Strand Rovers 1
Keadue Rovers Reserves 2

Two goals in the opening twenty minutes were enough to see Keadue past Strand in the Area Final of the Voodoo Venue Cup. Oran Fallon and Dylan Boyle got the all-important strikes.

Just as it looked likely that Strand would trail 0-2 at the break, Michael Curran found the Keadue net to decrease the deficit to the minimum. Neither side could add to their tallies in the second half and so it finished 1-2 in Maghery.
