Raymond Foy has stepped down as manager of Strabane Athletic, the club has confirmed.

The Castefinn native has been in charge of the Tyrone club for the past two seasons, guiding them to promotion to the third tier of the Northern Irish Football League in June as they defeated Crewe United over two legs.

Strabane had a brilliant start in the Irish League Cup on Wednesday last as they went 2-0 up against current holders Cliftonville at Solitude, with Milford native Garry Merritt and Oisin Duffy from Killygordon hitting early goals, but they would go on to lose 5-2.

Foy previously stepped down as manager in 2024 after they won the league and cup double, but lost out on promotion in the play-offs, but he came back shortly after to guide them to promotion in his second season.

A statement from the club confirmed Foy’s departure, with the club sitting in ninth place in the league.

“The Committee of Strabane Athletic FC would like to inform our supporters that Manager Raymond Foy has stepped down with immediate effect.

“The Club thanks Raymond for his leadership over the last couple of seasons. We will endeavour to fill the vacant managerial position as soon as possible.”
