Kildrum Tigers celebrate winning the Area Shield.
Veteran Kevin McHugh clipped a fabulous late winner as Kildrum Tigers won the Lifford Area Shield of the Brian McCormick Cup on Sunday.
Kildrum Tigers 1
Convoy Arsenal 0
McHugh fired to the top corner ten minutes from the end of a tense game.
The bad weekend rainfall rendered Station Road Park unplayable. As a result, Convoy had home advantage and they made life difficult for Shane McGinty’s charges.
Matthew Crossan almost gave Kildrum the lead with a thunderous shot that cannoned off the crossbar.
Brian Breslin was denied in two one-on-one scenarios and the clock was ticking towards its conclusion when McHugh conjured up the winner.
The former Finn Harps star picked his spot from 20 yards, giving the goalkeeper no chance and sending the Cup holders through to the semi-finals.
