McGeechan’s strike, in the 62nd minute, gave the Donegal lads a win over their derby rivals in the first leg of a two-legged encounter.
At Maginn Park, hosts Inishowen began well before Donegal’s Hayden Gault went close, his 12th minute effort saved.
Tiernan Callaghan tried his luck from 30 yards, but was unable to find the net.
Mikey McDonnell had a pair of chances before the hour mark, but the deadlock remained intact.
Donegal did break the stalemate when Eamon Coyle drove out with the ball and released McGeechan. His initial shot was parried, but McGeechan tucked in the rebound.
The return leg is in three weeks’ time.
