Social media video prompts €5,000 donation from Donegal boxer

Donegal boxer David Weir donated a large sum of money after seeing a social media post
A boxer from Donegal donated €5,000 to two volunteer charities.
David Weir, an Ardara native, donated the money after seeing a social media video of a man collecting leftover tents after Electric Picnic.
A video posted by an Instagram account under the name ‘runseasnierun’ asked festival-goers to donate their tents when leaving the EP campsite to Dublin Homeless Awareness, who attended the event to collect tents and use them for those living on the streets.
David, who now lives in Dubai, commented under the video posted on August 26, saying: “However many they collect for the homeless, I will double it.”
David then donated the money to Dublin Homeless Awareness and Liberty Soup Run, a volunteer charity that provides warm food, clothing, and practical support to people facing homelessness
David ‘The Diamond’ Weir started his boxing journey in 2025 and trains with high-profile figures like world champion Jono Carroll and Irish boxer Jason Quigley.
In July, he fought at the Fight Night at the Valley 2 extravaganza at the Finn Valley Centre in Stranorlar, securing a victory
Weir has previously been involved in charitable donations, such as donating a €25,000 fight purse to the Children’s Health Foundation, and he also operates community initiatives like The Diamond Weir Foodbank to support individuals in need.
