The large Irish community on Spain’s Costa Blanca welcomed hundreds of Irishmen and women who jetted in to join Spaniards and a host of nationalities at the Orihuela Costa St Patrick's Day parade.
An estimated 18,000 people lined the streets of Cabo Roig for the first parade since Covid-19 brought a halt to festivities in the coastal town. One of Donegal’s all-time heroes Anthony Molloy enjoyed the day as a guest of honour and Grand Marshall.
The captain of Donegal 1992 All-Ireland winning side said: It made me so proud to be in Cabo Roig on the biggest day - celebrating our patron Saint Patrick. It is great to see so many, many people and to see the green splashed all over this Spanish town.
“What a fantastic day, it has been a great occasion and I am thrilled to be able to lead the parade as Grand Marshall.”
The 90-minute parade covered by Spanish TV included 25 groups ranging from floats, dancing groups, bands, stilt walkers, drummers and Mickey Mouse cartoon characters.
