An architect's impression of the planned new building for Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí
Work is to begin on a new building at Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí in Donegal Town before the end of the month.
The school was one of 58 nationally for which funding was put on hold for building projects earlier this year, before approval was finally given last month after a campaign by the school community.
It has been now been confirmed that a contractor has been appointed and work is to begin in the coming weeks.
The school, which has been housed in prefab buildings, has waited 24 years for the building project.
Donegal Independent TD Thomas Pringle said the announcement is very good news for students and teachers and the larger school community who have been waiting so long and working so hard to make sure it happened.
“When the Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí was one of the school building projects put on hold earlier this year, the school community came out to protest the decision and made their voices heard,” he said.
“Now that the decision to pause the projects has been reversed, and the work will begin.”
