A major fundraiser has been launched to repatriate the remains of a woman whose wish it was to be buried alongside her grandmother in Donegal.

Leanne Stapleton passed away in North Carolina after suffering a major cardiac arrest.

The 40-year-old mother battled throughout her life with an asthmatic condition and was recently diagnosed with a serious heart condition.

After suffering a cardiac arrest, Leanne was on life support for 14 days before she lost her battle.

Her mother is Susan Molloy, a native of Kilclooney and her father, Kevin Stapleton, hails from County Kerry.

The family want to bring Leanne back home to be buried beside her grandmother, Lila, in Donegal town.

A GoFundMe page has been launched and has raised over $14,500. You can donate here.

“The family would sincerely appreciate any financial support to deal with ongoing medical and legal expenses,” organisers say.

Leanne is also survived by her loving 12-year-old son Ronan and her stepmother Irene.
