Donegal Seagulls not litter friendly with Council bins

The constant ingenuity of seagulls getting litter out of bins has been raised a number of times regarding their "activities" around the coastal areas of the Donegal Municipal District.

Council officials confirmed at the June meeting of the MD said that they were trying to identify a suitable waste bin solution for use in coastal towns.

"We are currently in discussions with the bin manufacturer to see if they have something in stock that can be retrofitted to the bins to prevent seagulls pulling litter out.

"It a suitable solution can be identified, we will make arrangements t have it installed on the bins."

However, the majority of problems relate to how rapidly the bins overflow on the busy summer days and how people, living in holiday homes, also use them to dispose of ther rubbish, rather than taking them home with them, councillors have said over recent meetings.
