Cashelard road cracks due to boggy grounds on which it was built

Concerns over lifting of eviction ban raised at Donegal Municipal District

The Cashelard road outside Ballyshannon where ‘cracking’ has been observed over the years has been checked again and noted by council officials, members of the Donegal Municipal District were told at their July meeting.

At a previous meeting the Municipal District Cllr Barry Sweeny referred to the ‘cracking’ that is occurring on a portion of the Cashelard Road.

He had seen it for himself and it had also been brought to his attention by local residents in the area.

At a previous meeting, Acting area manager for roads and transportation, Mark Sweeney had noted that this was “a recurring issue due to the bog ground on which the road is constructed” and that he would review the same, but he also stated that the same road had been attended to, “not many years ago in the (roads) programme”.

Cllr Sweeny had asked if some works would be carried out at the corner before the creamery at Cashelard perhaps via a CIS.

At the July meeting the issue had been followed up by the council by Mr Sweeney, who explained:

“This road has been checked and the cracking being referred to is noted. The road will be monitored over the coming months and will be considered in advance of finalising next year’s programme.”
