Funeral takes place of Carrick house fire victim

Tragic Carrick house fire victim Maureen McGinley was laid to rest on Wednesday afternoon.

Ms McGinley, who was in her 70s, died in the early hours of Monday following a house fire.

Her Funeral Mass took place on Wednesday at 12 noon in St Patrick’s Church, Meenaneary, where her remains reposed overnight on Tuesday. She was laid to rest in Carrick cemetery.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fatal house fire at a residence at approximately 5am on Monday.

“One woman aged in her 70s was pronounced deceased at the scene,” a Garda spokesperson said.

The scene was preserved for a technical examination and Gardai say that investigations are ongoing into the cause of the blaze.

Late of Meenachavery, Carrick, Ms McGinley was predeceased by her brother Connie. She is survived by her brother Charlie, sister-in-law Annie, niece Clare, nephews Shaun and William, and extended family and friends.

In a tribute the Naomh Columba GAA club said: “We would like to extend our deepest condolences to Charlie and the extended McGinley family on the sad passing of Maureen. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.”
