It’s only fitting that Donegal has been represented in ‘The 26 best places for fish and chips in Ireland’.
The list was compiled by the Independent.ie by food critic Katy McGuinness, who picks the best places in the country to enjoy fish and chips.
Corcreggan Mill in Dunfanaghy and Killybegs’ Seafood Shack are the two local eateries mentioned.
“Described as gourmet fish and chips with a Mexican twist, Corcreggan Mill serves its lightly battered haddock fillet with minty peas and homemade tartar sauce, and its fries with their skins on — already enough to set it apart from your run-of-the-mill greasy chipper,” reads the review of Corcreggan.
“If you’re in the mood for something even fancier, you can have salt ’n’ chilli squid with Parmesan truffle fries and napa slaw, fish tacos and guacamole, and a bottle of Portuguese alvarinho to wash it all down. Everything on the menu is gluten free.
Meanwhile, the Seafood Shack in Killybegs is described as: “Located right on the pier in Ireland’s largest fishing port, Mairéad Anderson’s Seafood Shack serves up good fish, goujons, calamari, scampi and chips along with some daily specials. A fish box gives you the chance to try a bit of everything. If the weather plays ball, you can sit on the wall opposite and watch the boats coming and going.”
