When will new Bundoran Housing development start, asks councillor?

An overview of where the new social houses will be built in the East End of the town

Cllr Michael McMahon (SF) has queried as to when the long promised 42 unit housing development at Drumacrin in Bundoran's East End will commence.

He told a recent meeting of the Donegal MD that work was supposed to have started on the project in July but he was now getting constantly asked as to when it would start. And he pointed out that he had expressed his frustration at the previous meeting of the Municipal District in September.

He said: “I am just wondering if we can nail down a date. I do know that everybody has been working very hard including the team here, but I keep getting asked the question, when and when and when.

“I have also been talking to residents there in the vicinity of the new development about traffic management and we will need a meeting with them before it starts, so I would appreciate it if we could get matters sorted on this front,” he added.

Donegal County Council say that the construction of 42 social housing units will comprise of 20 two-bed apartments in 7, two storey blocks; 9 two bed 2 storey houses; 9 three-bed 2-storey houses, 3 four-Bed 2-storey houses; 1 six-bed (specially adapted) 2-storey house and all associated site development works including foul drain pumping station with rising main, stormwater attenuation system and controlled pedestrian crossing point.

Cllr McMahon also thanked the officials for their work on the retrofitting houses scheme in Gaelic Park and Mountain View in order to make them more energy efficient through better insulation.

He said that a number of people, who had initially declined the offer, had seen the good work that had been taking place and while he understood that those people would now have to wait, he appealed to officials to see whether they could expedite these additional applications and interests as soon as they could.
