Respected local historian Anthony Begley will deliver the annual Emerson lecture
Respected local south Donegal historian Anthony Begley will deliver this year's keynote Donegal Historical Society’s annual Emerson Lecture.
The annual lecture is held in memory of Louis and Kathleen Emerson who did so much to promote interest in the history and heritage of the county and were deeply involved in the DHS for many decades.
This year’s lecture will commemorate the 175th Anniversary of the departure of 19 girls from the Ballyshannon Workhouse to Australia under the Earl Grey Scheme.
A fascinating story which will be delivered with his customary panache by Anthony Begley on Wednesday November 8 starting at 7pm.
While there will be free Admission, there will be limited seating, so booking is essential
To book, check out www.abbeycentre.ie or contact 0719851375
The lecture forms part of this year's Allingham Festival, which will be officially after the lecture and this in turn will be followed by the annual Allingham lecture which this year will be delivered by Children Ombudsman and Donegal Town native, Dr. Niall Muldoon (pictured above) which begins at 8.45pm.
His lecture will focus on "Children’s Rights in Ireland – From the Workhouse to the Family Hub’’.
All that is happening at this year's festival can be checked out at www.allinghamfestival.com.
