Retiring Bundoran RNLI volunteer Press Officer Shane Smyth has sincerely thanked all those who have helped him down the years after retiring from his role after 13 years, to concentrate on other projects.

Shane told Donegal Live that it had been a hugely immense honour to be involved with such a wonderful group of people and cited particular praise for his work volunteer colleagues, who were on call 24 hours a day.

He said:

"Thanks to everyone for their support and guidance during my time as Lifeboat Press Officer. A special thank you to both Niamh Stephenson and Nuala McAloon for their mentorship in my role and to all the media outlets and journalists who have covered our stories over the years."

In an earlier announcement he said:

"After almost 13 years in the role of Volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer at Bundoran RNLI, I have decided to step back to concentrate on other projects.

"I will however remain as a volunteer with the station helping with fundraising and events. It has been an absolute honour to serve as Bundoran LPO and tell the stories of our amazing volunteers at the station who answer the call to save others at a moment’s notice.”

He added that there were great communication volunteering opportunities available for his replacement.
