Ballyshannon/Bundoran cumainn nominate Claudia Kennedy for Donegal local election

Claudia Kennedy from Ardfarna

Fianna Fáil cumann members in Bundoran and Ballyshannon have nominated Claudia Kennedy, from Ardfarna to contest the Donegal local elections in June.

The deadline for local nominations within the party was on Monday and she is expected to join outgoing councillor Micheál Naughton and Martin Hegarty from Kilcar on the Donegal Local Electoral area (LEA) ballot sheet this summer.

The party has yet to have an official convention for formal approval from their Comhairle Ceantair, but as their political strategy is to run three candidates within the municipal district/LEA, it is expected to be a formality.

Kennedy has previously contested a county council election in 2014 in the Stranorlar Electoral area, after she was added to the ticket by the party and she has also sought the FF nomination in Donegal LEA.

A secondary school teacher based in Finn Valley College, Stranorlar, Kennedy said:

“I would like to thank the FF membership of Bundoran and Ballyshannon who have nominated me and who have supported me. I am humbled and honoured to have their support.

“My key areas of priority will be housing, to alleviate dereliction of properties, employment, to support tourism, agriculture and to improve community amenities in the Donegal LEA.

“It’s very important to have a  FF representative in this part of the LEA due to our belonging to the Sligo-Leitrim constituency.

“It’s extremely difficult for us as Donegal people not belonging to the Donegal Dail Constituency. However, Minister McConologue, former Tanaiste Mary Coughlan and former MEP Pat the Cope Gallagher resolve and deliver on all issues in Bundoran and Ballyshannon on an everyday basis. They have helped and supported me on every issue, I have brought to them on behalf of constituents. It really is a team effort. Politics is about delivery and making a positive difference in society.

She added that her “aim is to build upon this work with FF  in Government delivering services and amenities for Donegal”.
