Performances of Babes in the Wood will take place nightly early next month
Borderline Players Pettigo will continue their tradition of presenting an Easter pantomime when their latest production, Babes in the Wood, takes to the stage at the Termon Complex from Wednesday, April 3.
With four nightly performances beginning at 7pm, the show promises to be a fun and memorable night out for all the family.
Featuring a cast of 90 with performers from across Donegal and Fermanagh, the pantomime is a prominent feature of the Borderline Players’ annual programme. It is a celebration of talent, creative and community collaboration, with this Easter marking 24 years since the group’s first production.
Babes in the Wood is directed by Siobhan O’Brien, founder and chairperson of Borderline Players. Siobhan has directed each of the group’s pantomimes and comedies since 2001 and is looking forward to once again welcoming audiences to the Termon Complex in April for this year’s extravaganza.
“I am delighted to be once again directing this very talented group of actors for what will be Borderline Players 14th pantomime,” she said. “We have been working night and day to bring this production to life for the past four months. We had our first script reading back in November and over the last few weeks I’ve spent my nights overseeing rehearsals with our principal cast and chorus, sewing costumes and planning out props and scenery.
“We are really lucky to have such a talented production team supporting us behind the scenes. Catherine Leonard will once again serve as our musical director and vocal coach, while our regular choreographer Christopher Cross is back once again to create some jaw-dropping dance routines for our younger performers this year Chris has been supported by our very own Ella Smith who has been putting the younger dancers through their paces while studying for her GCSEs.”
Costumes this year have been co-ordinated by Denise McManus, Pauline Stevens and Roisin McNern, while sets have been designed and constructed by Sinead Ferguson and Paul Walsh.
The cast will see a number of new faces joining the ranks with Ederney’s Daire Moss taking on the role of Robin Hood, Siobhan McNamee O’Donnell starring at Little John – following years of backstage roles while two local superstars in the making Arthur McManus and Caitlin McGlone, pupils at St John the Baptist Primary School in Roscor make their principal cast debut as Babes’ Billy and Milly who are sure to cause mayhem for their carer, Nurse Nitwit, played by the inimitable Joseph Walsh.
