The before and after images before the sand removal at Bundoran's main beach area
Bundoran beach was a hive of activity this week as tons of sand that had been swept up onto the walkways and around the lifeguard hut at the town’s main beach was redeposited where it should be - on the beach itself.
Work was also carried out to ensure that walkers along the popular Promenade and seafront are making sandcastles before they need to.
The nearby ‘Thruppeny Pool’ also gets silted with tons of sand over the winter months and this too has been removed to accommodate bathers, who now use it over the winter months as well, as outdoor water swimming out of season has increasingly become popular.

It is an ongoing battle with nature that will never cease.
Election candidate in the forthcoming County Council June elections, Diarmaid Doherty commented:

“What a difference a week can make. All the sand removed from around the lifeguard hut and the outdoor swimming pool clean out.
He took the before and after photos of the work being carried out and thanked the firm that carried out the works on behalf of Donegal County Council, which he pointed out was a huge job.
Meanwhile the equally popular indoor aqua park at Waterworld in the seaside resort also reopens today, Thursday March 28.
