Retrofitting at 57 housing units in Gaelic Park Drive Bundoran started this week
The start of retrofitting some 57 social housing units at Gaelic Park Drive in Bundoran has been welcomed by Cllr Michael McMahon (SF).
The work will see doors and windows replaced and upgraded as well as increasing energy ratings within the homes through greater insulation.
“It just started this week and it is great news for local families,” he said.
This would be followed by retrofitting at Mountain View in the West End of the town, he added, something that he had been calling for as a councillor, since the scheme was first introduced a few years back.
“This is the first scheme that will take place in Bundoran and follows on from a similar successful programme in Ballyshannon,” he added.
The national Social Housing Energy Efficiency Retrofitting Programme makes funding available to improve the standard and overall quality of local authority social housing stock in Donegal and elsewhere.
He concluded: “It should certainly cut the heating bills in half for tenants and especially next winter. The new water to heat pumps and treble glazing on doors and windows added to insulated attics will make a huge difference and I very much welcome the start of the works which will take a number of months. I am very happy that it has started. It is a great programme and I thank the housing section of Donegal County Council for their work as we are at a critical point in the housing crisis.”
