Organisers of Bundoran 10 Mile event warn of online scams offering entries

The Bundoran 10 Mile is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 1

Organisers of the Bundoran 10 Mile have warned of social media scams offering registrations to enter the now sold-out event.

The Bundoran 10 Race will take place on Saturday, March 1, along the Wild Atlantic Way and the Leitrim coastline, finishing via the Roguey Walk at Main Beach, Bundoran. There will also be a 5k fun run on Friday night, February 28, with medals for all finishers.

Over the weekend, it was confirmed that the event is now sold out, only for organisers to learn that there are Facebook sellers offering hopefuls another chance to register, and urged interested parties to show vigilance.

“The Bundoran 10 Mile is now sold out, people can exchange entries and we can do name changes (more info to come!),” they posted. “However please be vigilant! The first thing you should think of if someone offers you a place is that it’s a scam.

“If you really must and we recommend that you don’t buy a random place off Facebook is that you double and triple-check that the person is real and they actually have a place. Get a screenshot of the confirmation or try to verify who the person is. Maybe a phone conversation.

“We will have our transfer window in February, where people who can not run will be able to sell their places. It is up to you to make sure it is genuine. Do your due diligence.”
