Shane McShea was today, Tuesday, released from hospital
A Ballyshannon man had a lucky escape after being stabbed in a random attack in Dublin on Sunday.
Shane McShea, from the Abbey, Ballyshannon, was this morning released from the Mater Hospital and is understood to be in good spirits and good health considering, although a little shaken from the incident.
Shane, 43, was stabbed in the side of the neck on Sunday afternoon near his home in the Arbour Hill area of Stoneybatter. Sensing someone coming behind him, Shane managed to slightly deflect the blow.
Doctors in the Mater Hospital, where Shane was taken, told family members afterwards that he was "one-eighth of an inch" from an artery being severed.
The owner and coach at The Fitness Society, Dublin 8, Shane, who went to school at De La Salle College Ballyshannon and studied at Technological University Dublin, is the son of former Donegal GAA captain Pauric McShea and his wife Bregeen and has two sisters - Rhona and Corienne - and brothers, Darragh and Gareth.
Shane was today, Tuesday, released from hospital and is recovering. His family have expressed their gratitude to the medical staff and gardaí.
