Scoil Mhuire Glenties is celebrating national success after being named the overall winners of the prestigious Coillte Photography Competition, just in time for National Tree Week.

The winning entry, captured by the talented young photographers of senior infants and first class, showcased the beauty of Glenmakennive Forest, just outside Glenties. This special location holds deep significance for the children, as they were thrilled to rediscover the very trees they had planted upon graduating from playschool and Montessori. Their connection with nature and the environment shone through in their stunning photographs, impressing the competition judges.

Tree planting is a cherished tradition at Scoil Mhuire Glenties. Each year, the school's sixth class students leave a lasting legacy by planting a tree to mark their graduation, with last year’s ceremony taking place in the picturesque Bonny Glen. These meaningful experiences highlight the school’s commitment to environmental awareness and sustainability.

As a reward for their outstanding achievement, the pupils of Scoil Mhuire Glenties are now eagerly anticipating an all-expenses-paid trip to one of Coillte’s forest parks. This exciting adventure will further inspire their appreciation for Ireland’s natural beauty and reinforce the importance of protecting our woodlands for future generations.

With National Tree Week in full swing, the school’s success serves as a wonderful reminder of the deep connection between young people and the natural world—one that will continue to grow for years to come.
